You just couldn’t make it up – we had hoped to get the scaffolding removed from around the end of September but struggled to get our excellent scaffolder to make the trip over from Portsmouth. So we were surprised when we popped over to England mid-November for a planned trip, to get an email saying he was coming in a couple of days time! Typical – great to have it removed, but we would have loved to have been there to see our wee house undressed! Fortunately our son and his family had recently moved from Ireland to France and were staying with us, so they were able to provide the vitally important tea and sausage sarnies!!
Having the family with us has been yet another huge distraction – our 2 year old grandson is lovely of course, but a typical “Terrible – twos” little boy! We love him rushing in asking for his Nana – I think he sees her as a soft touch!! – but we do need to get back into the hard work state of mind and get the cladding onto the single storey section as soon as possible so it’s weather-tight before the really bad weather sets in. Now the family have moved close to Brest where our daughter-in-law has a job we have started to cut and paint the cladding for the corners and the window surrounds. It’ll all come together quickly!
While we were waiting to get back on the exterior we did do quite a bit of work inside. The first floor has the extra internal stud wall fitted to half the outside walls + the next (third) layer of insulation (100mm semi-rigid glassfibre). It was not quite as easy as I first thought as I had to fit extra timber around the windows to take the plasterboard reveals – but once I had established a system it was grand! I also moved the last of the insulation into the house – as I was using quite a bit upstairs. Good idea as it had been outside for over a year – not so good that it now clutters every room!! More pressure to get it fitted! I suspect that we are short of the rolls of insulation for the roof spaces, but have extra slabs of the semi-rigid stuff! Annoying, but I can work with it!!
Now the working day has been reduced we can do some more posts – hopefully!!
